What to see
Saint Miro is the Saint of Rain, born in Canzo in 1336 and died in Sòrico on Lake Como 45 years later in 1381. The church of Saint Miro is located in the municipality of Sorico in the province of Como. It is also referred to as a sanctuary because within it, beneath the main altar, the remains of Saint Miro are preserved. The building stands at an altitude of 319 meters above sea level on the hill of San Michele and can only be reached on foot by following an ancient mule track that branches off from the Old Via Regina. The path leading up to the church, now immersed in a forest of black locust trees but once entirely lined with vineyards, is characterized by the New Tower, the cave where, according to tradition, Saint Miro died, and the spring dedicated to him, also known as Gesiolo. The sanctuary is the second church of the parish of Saint Stephen in Sorico.
Getting there
On foot from Sorico, take the stepped mule track for 10 minutes from the parking lot.
By car to the Prati Meriggi, ascending from the Passo bridge and then a 15-minute walk on an easy path.
