Falesia Selvaggia

What to see

In the spring of 2024, during the search for new boulders for the usual "Street Boulder" organized by our section, there was a need to find some blocks on natural rock, not just on buildings, to diversify climbing. We caught sight, just beyond the entrance of the Valtellina trail, coming from the Ontano beach, of a portion of rock that seemed to present itself for this purpose.

While clearing this Gneiss from the dense vegetation, we noticed that the rock rose several meters upwards. Driven by curiosity, some of us began to clear a section of the rock at the base of the wall for the "Street," and as the shrubs disappeared and the rock emerged, the concrete idea of creating a new crag began to take shape in us.

Subsequently, with no small effort, we set to work to clear all the vegetation that concealed this beautiful little wall overlooking the lake, separated only by a path and a strip of sand that constitutes the famous Spiaggia Selvaggia.

Some time later, we presented our project to our friend and Alpine Guide Rossano Libera, proposing to him to make this intention a reality by showing him what we had discovered. After a site visit, he enthusiastically accepted our proposal.

Thus began the work on the wall: cleaning, removing the upper vegetation and the ivy that covered the wall in some places, hiding beneath it traces of old ascents in the form of old bolts embedded in some cracks, which, to honor the very first climbers, we decided to leave in place.

Thus, the Falesia Selvaggia was born, or rather reborn, in April 2025.

This new crag features 9 short but fun routes. The 6-grade routes have a "bouldery" character and are somewhat challenging at first glance; the central ones are overhanging and require physical climbing, while the first route on the left side of the wall is very technical on a slab.

  Sentiero Valtellina

  From the Wild Cliff, at the beginning of the Valtellina Trail, the route follows the mouth of the Adda River through reeds, fields, and peaceful stretches immersed in nature. Continuing north, one enters the valley floor up to Mantello, but the path continues further along the Valtellina, accompanying the river's course into the heart of the valley.

  A vast nature reserve among lakes, reeds, wet meadows, and waterways, where the landscape becomes open, quiet, and rich in wildlife. It is one of the most unique places in the upper Lario, perfect for walking immersed in nature amidst water, mountains, and wide open spaces.
