What to see

Abbey of San Pietro in Vallate (11th century) You have reached a place where time seems to have stood still. Founded in 1078 thanks to a donation to the Order of Cluny, this ancient priory nestled in the woods of Cosio Valtellino represents the first testimony of the Cluniac settlement in the entire valley. Today, among the centuries-old chestnut trees, the embrace of stone narrates centuries of silence and medieval spirituality. Before you rise the evocative ruins of the Romanesque church: the elegant semicircular apse, adorned with hanging arches and Greek motifs, and the truncated bell tower that soars towards the sky. Guardian of a solitary and proud beauty, this place evokes the work and prayer of the monks who once inhabited it, offering every traveler an oasis of peace and an unforgettable fragment of Valtellinese history.
